Preventing Burnout: Selfcare tools from Yoga and Ayurveda
In our modern society, we have become conditioned to “do more”, and to do it faster and better than before. All of the chaotic external energy that is spent trying to juggle work, family, chores, and community involvement means that there is very little time left for relaxation in the most optimal way. When we drain our healthy energy reserves (Ojas), and don’t take the time to replenish these reserves back up, we eventually create a chronic state of exhaustion, stress, anxiety, and dis-ease within the body.
Ayurveda teaches us that the key to healing is stillness, and when we allow our physical bodies to deeply relax, release stress and tension, we also allow our mental bodies to relax and disengage from the monkey mind chatter.
Some of the proven benefits of practicing restorative yoga include: lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, slower heart rate, better sleep, higher energy, improved focus and concentration, improved sexual desire and function, even mood patterns, less stress, and relaxation.
So, how can we hit the pause button on the chaos of daily life? Through the method and science of Restorative Yoga, this session will explore routines and tools that help to restore Ojas (the body’s energy reserves). An understanding of the neuroscience behind Yoga nidra will provide the foundation from which we can explore how to achieve deep rest and relaxation in an optimal way. The session will conclude with journal prompts which facilitate your personal development and the growth of this practice.
Facilitated by Tendai Angela Jambga-Rokkones.
