Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace: Power: Shifting, Sharing, or Taking?

February 26 @ 13:00 - 14:30
A poster for a digital panel on Power shifting, sharing and taking

Our Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace series is a global platform dedicated to fostering open conversations and learning around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in workplaces and communities worldwide. Since 2020, these monthly sessions have brought together professionals, leaders, and advocates from across the globe to explore best practices, share personal experiences, and discuss actionable strategies for creating more inclusive environments. These free, virtual sessions serve as a space for collective growth, critical reflection, and meaningful dialogue on DEI’s evolving role in society.

The topic for February:
Power: Shifting, Sharing, or Taking?

Power influences who has access to opportunities, who is heard, and whose decisions shape the workplace. But tackling power dynamics isn’t simple. It requires a deep understanding of systemic inequities, cultural contexts, and the challenges of redistribution in environments often resistant to change.

In this session, we’ll explore the nuanced dimensions of power:

  • Shifting Power: What does it mean to realign power structures to prioritize equity and inclusion? How can organizations foster environments where traditionally excluded voices hold influence?
  • Sharing Power: Is power truly shared, or does it remain in the hands of a select few? How can we avoid performative gestures and ensure meaningful participation in decision-making processes?
  • Taking Power: When is it necessary to challenge the status quo and take power to dismantle systems of oppression? What risks and rewards come with pushing boundaries for systemic change?
  • Navigating Resistance: What challenges arise when attempting to redistribute power, and how can organizations and individuals address these obstacles?

Through thought-provoking discussions, case studies, and actionable insights, this session will examine how power can be a tool for transformation when wielded with intentionality and accountability.

This session is for professionals, leaders, DEI practitioners, and advocates ready to engage with the complexities of power in workplaces. Whether you’re reimagining your leadership approach or working to drive systemic change in your organization, this conversation is for you.

Join us to rethink what power means in the context of workplace equity, and explore strategies to create lasting, inclusive change.
