SUMMARY:Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace: Microaggressions vs. Microaffirmations
DESCRIPTION:Diversity and inclusion in the workplace is imperative for a sustainable\, competitive and innovative company and society at large. Diversity also goes beyond the outward perception of a company – it includes how the internal structures work and signal the value systems of an organization’s management or leadership team. \nThis series is designed by Diversify to centre Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace. We look forward to seeing you! \n\nIn our Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace session for September\, we will discuss microaggressions and microaffirmations. \nMicroaggressions are defined as the everyday\, subtle\, intentional — and oftentimes unintentional — interactions or behaviors that communicate some sort of bias toward historically marginalized groups.\n \nMicro-affirmations are small acknowledgment of another person’s value. It’s a subtle act of inclusion and kindness that goes a long way in building a culture of belonging. \n\nSpeakers to be announced soon! \nThis event is FREE to attend. Please register HERE to receive the zoom link.

SUMMARY:Bodily Autonomy\, Women’s Right and the Hijab
DESCRIPTION:A discussion on Bodily Autonomy\, Women’s Right and the Hijab  \nThere is an ongoing fight for women’s freedom to choose across the world\, from Iran and El Salvador\,  to India and the United States. Women\, men and people are taking to the streets – women burning their head scarves and cutting their hair – to protest against the murder of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody for allegedly wearing her headscarf improperly in Tehran\, while women in India are fighting for their right to wear one. In El Salvador and the United States\, women are demanding abortion rights. \nThese ongoing protests are a fight for bodily autonomy\, agency and freedom to make choices over oneself. Women in different parts of the world are still fighting for their basic human rights\, to be seen\, heard and to choose for themselves. \n  \n\nJoin us for a nuanced discussion about the situation in Iran and beyond with with Sherry Hakimnejad\, Chisom Udeze\, Stephanie Alvarez and Sayantani Saha. \nThis is a hybrid event. She holds a Masters in International Relations and Conflict Resolution from the Externado University of Colombia and a BA in Political Science and International Studies from Franklin & Marshall College in the United States.
