SUMMARY:Creative Fridays: Make your own bento bags
DESCRIPTION:Bento bags are a popular Japanese style of bag. They are called azuma bukuro which translates to “good fortune bag”. You can use these bento bags for bulk shopping\, gift wrapping\, a lunch box\, and even a camera bag. \nDaisy will guide us through the easy process of making our own bags. Bring fabric with your favorite patterns or upcycle something special like a childhood bed sheet set. Each bento bag uses 2 pieces of fabric. If bringing your own fabric\, make sure both pieces of your woven (not knit) fabrics are each 30 cm x 100 cm (11 1/2 inches x 40 inches). If you don’t want to bring your own materials\, fabric will be available at the event for 100 kroner/bag. \nWe will have sewing stations ready and looking forward to creating with you. \nCost: NOK200\nMax Participants: 8 \nAbout WarmFolk & Daisy \n \nWarmFolk quilts and patterns reflect a love of traditional craft and a celebration of modern aesthetics. Daisy Aschehoug created WarmFolk as a way to move her teaching and quilt design forward in the quilting industry\, while also pursuing various art quilt endeavors. This site is currently in development but will soon include a range of products and services all designed to keep you and your loved ones happy and warm. Or “koselig” as they say in Norway. \nDaisy Aschehoug currently lives in Nesodden\, Norway. She grew up among sewing machines and fabric\, but it wasn’t till her thirties that she finally asked her mother to teach me to sew. Quilting offered an opportunity to combine her new love for sewing with all of the art classes that she’d taken throughout my life. She realized a passion for selecting fabrics to incorporate into traditional and modern quilt patterns. \nDaisy has been making quilts since 2010 and designing quilts for magazines since 2016. She is most passionate about the art of modern traditionalism and incorporating curved piecing into utility quilts. She is a member of the Modern Quilt Guild and the Studio Art Quilt Associates. \nShe has a masters in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana\, and spent several years in the United States helping federal and state governments work with communities to develop best practices for managing natural resources. Now that she is fully immersed in designing\, making\, and teaching the art of quilting\, she is excited to explore how the resources she uses in her craft can reflect socially and environmentally sustainable practices. \n

SUMMARY:Women in Leadership: Shine Theory
DESCRIPTION:For this Women in Leadership session\, join us to hear Chisom Udeze and Sarah Przedpelska discuss Shine Theory. \nShine Theory\, developed by Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman\, is described as the practice of mutual investment in each other. Shine Theory represents an intentional commitment to collaborate with and support each other instead of competing with each other. \nRather than engage in insecurity\, Shine Theory encourages us to come into our power and have the confidence to be excited and supportive of someone else’s success. It embodies the attitude of “I don’t shine if you don’t shine.” It’s a practice of cultivating a spirit of genuine happiness and excitement when your friends are doing well\, and being there for them when they aren’t. When we find ways to elevate each other and help each other thrive\, it becomes contagious. \nCome to this session to learn about Shine Theory and women supporting women! \n*This event is free for HerSpace members (Spots are limited)*\n*This event is also free for participants from Africa Connect*\n \nThis is a recurring event. Every two weeks\, you will hear from a female leader who will share her story\, experience\, knowledge\, insights and/or advice. Light snacks and drinks will be served. \nAbout our speakers:\nChisom Udeze\nChisom Udeze\, according to Sarah Przedpelska:\n“When Chisom Udeze encounters a problem that irks her\, you can be certain she does not rest until something moves. She’s done it for over a decade within business development and economics\, and more recently\, she has been moving things in Oslo to create social impact through Diversify and HerSpace. Chisom is seldom perplexed by problems\, instead she sees them as puzzles in need of new constellations. The constellations she forms depend on collaborating with others and lifting together to form synergies and new solutions. No wonder the concept of Shine Theory has such a great appeal to her.” \n  \n  \nSarah Przedpelska\n \nSarah Przedpelska according to Chisom Udeze:\n“Sarah Przedpelska is a curious\, brave\, warm\, and brilliant individual. She approaches every situation with an open mind\, and a willingness to truly learn. She sees and values people as they are. In the years I have known Sarah she has been a confidante and a force of nature who I can reach out to when I need unfiltered honesty and advice. She expects me to be better than I am\, and she encourages me to aim higher. While I have practiced Shine Theory in one way or another throughout my adult life\, it was with Sarah that we first decided to make it intentional. She introduced me to the concept of Shine Theory and I look forward to continuing learning from her.”

SUMMARY:Vinyasa & Restorative Yoga with Nikki
DESCRIPTION:Start your week off with an energizing Vinyasa flow practice followed by a healing restorative yoga session with Nikki Hayes at HerSpace. \nVinyasa is a dynamic type of yoga that connects one posture to the next through the breath and flowing movements\, which is why it is sometimes called “Yoga flow”. It is fun and variable\, as practices are never the same. It helps to develop a more balanced body as well as prevent repetitive motion injuries. The class runs for 60 min. \nRestorative yoga is a practice to slow down and open your body through passive stretching. It is a completely different experience than most contemporary Yoga\, and it is a good complement of more active practices and our busy lives\, an excellent antidote to stress\, depression and anxiety. The class runs for 15min. You are welcome to bring blankets or pillows to support you through the poses. We will serve a light\, nourishing breakfast with tea following our session. \nCost for the full event: NOK250\nMax attendees: 12 people
