SUMMARY:Being Non-Binary in a Binary World
DESCRIPTION:Being Non-Binary in a Binary World\n\nTired of feeling squeezed into a box at work? This session throws out the binary code and empowers the glorious non-binary and gender-nonconforming folks to rock their authentic selves at work. We’ll get real about the challenges faced (misgendering\, bathroom woes\, the whole shebang) and how these impact well-being. But don’t sweat it! This session will arm you with ninja-level self-advocacy skills. Learn how to choose your pronouns for work\, politely shut down misgendering offenders (because shyness is overrated)\, and have THE TALK with your manager and coworkers. Plus\, we’ll explore building a support network that’s got your back and strategies for creating a more inclusive workplace (think gender-neutral everything and unconscious bias training). This session also acknowledges the world can suck\, and sometimes\, walking away is the ultimate power move. Get ready for an interactive session packed with tips to help you thrive\, not just survive\, at work. It’s time to rewrite the rules and break the binary of the workplace. This session will discuss:\n\n\nThe importance of bringing your authentic self to work for overall well-being and productivity.\nDiscuss common challenges faced by non-binary/GNC individuals at work (e.g.\, misgendering\, lack of gender-neutral options in restrooms\, work forms not having options\, etc.)\nDiscuss studies that show the impact of these challenges on mental health and work performance.\nDiscuss how laws and protections for GNC folks are being rescinded or ignored.\nDiscuss strategies for self-advocacy\nDiscuss how to be an active ally\nSummarise the key takeaways\n\nThis is a digital session and FREE for all to attend! Please register HERE to receive the Zoom link. \n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\nJustin Hester (They/Them)\, Managing Partner\, Centric Advisory \nJustin Hester (they/them) is an experienced and dedicated sales and customer success executive\, change agent\, and industry expert with over 20 years of experience leading teams and organizations to exceed their business goals. SUMMARY:Book Launch: Everything Is Not Enough
DESCRIPTION:Diversify\, in partnership with The Conduit\, is proud to present an inspiring evening celebrating the launch of Lọlá Ákínmádé Åkerström’s newest book\, “Everything Is Not Enough”. \nThis special event offers an opportunity to dive into the world of an acclaimed author and experience the magic of her latest work. Join us for a captivating evening where Lọlá will read selected excerpts from her book and take us through her journey\, the inspiration behind “Everything Is Not Enough”\, and her experiences as a writer and storyteller. \nThe agenda includes the following:\n– A short reading by Lọlá\n– A fireside chat between Lọlá and Chisom\n– A “Roundtable” discussion between Lọlá and some inspiring women\, including Gabriella Bossman\, Salamatu Kamara\, Monica Ifejilika and Chisom Udeze. We are calling this bit\, “A Seat at the Table”.\n– Book signing\n– Mingling\, networking and snacks \nBOOK YOUR TICKET HERE to join! \n\nAbout the Book:\nThis highly anticipated follow-up to her debut novel\, In Every Mirror She’s Black\, focuses on the lives of three Black women as they fight their own personal struggles in one of the most egalitarian societies\, Sweden. \nCan a career woman truly have it all? \nPowerful marketing executive Kemi Adeyemi has finally found the man she needs\, but Tobias Wikström thinks she’s the most selfish woman he has ever met for asking him to give up his life in Sweden and move to the US for her own comfort. Will Kemi be forced to stay if she wants to keep him while chipping away at her hard-earned career? As things begin to sour and challenge her relationship with Tobias\, someone else moves back into the picture. \nCan having it all be a gilded cage? \nLooking into divorce in Sweden isn’t what former model-turned-flight attendant Brittany-Rae von Lundin anticipated. Only jointly owned assets are split evenly between couples. Brittany gave up her career and came with nothing into Jonny’s kingdom. Having had a child with him\, her greatest fear for Maya includes being cut off from the resources she’s become accustomed to. With a man obsessed with a ghost\, trying to get away isn’t going to be easy. And the deeper she digs into his past\, the darker the secrets she unravels. \nCan you run from your past to have it all? \nAfter fleeing her home through a client to seek a new life in Sweden\, Yasmiin finds love in the arms of Yagiz Çelik while carving out her own small corner. But as someone from her past forces Yasmiin to become a caretaker before she’s ready\, she now must confront and move beyond her teenage history\, while following her dreams of becoming a makeup artist. \nEverything Is Not Enough follows the loosely intertwined and messy lives of Kemi\, Brittany\, and Yasmiin as they interrogate themes of place\, prejudice\, and patriarchy in Europe\, proving–yet again–that Lola Akinmade Åkerström is the next great voice of nuanced contemporary women’s fiction. \nPraise for “Everything Is Not Enough”: \n“The best new popular fiction for October 2023…The soap opera energy is strong… The women’s paths criss-cross as their personal crises worsen – all stemming from the struggles they are facing as black women in a white society…draws strong characters” The Times (UK) \n“Åkerström\, a Nigerian American author based in Sweden\, successfully rounds out the stories of three complicated women as they make mistakes and strive for their own places in the world.” Washington Post / 10 Noteworthy Books for October \n\nAbout the author:\n \nLọlá Ákínmádé Åkerström is an award-winning visual storyteller\, international bestselling author\, and travel entrepreneur. SUMMARY:Climate Justice: Why Intersectionality Matters
DESCRIPTION:What has the climate crisis got to do with the struggle for racial\, social\, and economic justice?
