SUMMARY:Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace: Neurodiversity
DESCRIPTION:Diversity and inclusion in the workplace is imperative for a sustainable\, competitive and innovative company and society at large. Diversity also goes beyond the outward perception of a company – it includes how the internal structures work and signal the value systems of an organization’s management or leadership team. \nThis series is designed by Diversify to centre Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace. We look forward to seeing you! \n\nDiversity and Inclusion in the Workplace: Neurodiversity\n  \n\nNeurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one “right” way of thinking\, learning\, and behaving\, and differences are not viewed as deficits. (Harvard Health) \nThe word neurodiversity refers to differences within ALL people. However\, it is often used to refer to those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)\, as well as other neurological or developmental conditions such as ADHD or learning disabilities\, where differences in behaviour and learning can be more apparent. \nDuring this session of Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace we will explore how workplaces\, recruiters and we as individuals in our everyday interactions can become more aware of neurodiversity.  By making conscious “accommodations”\, neurodivergant people can be better included. With this awareness of neurodivergant ways of learning and behaving\, neurodiversity can be accepted and celebrated\, rather than excluded. \nThese accommodations can be things such as: \n\n\nthe way we communicate (avoiding sarcasm\, euphemisms\, and implied messages)\npaying attention to what words you use (person first language)\nthe set up of a workplace to be considerate of sound sensitivity and movement (allowing regular breaks or the use of fidget toys\, for example)\n\n\nJoin us to hear from our panelists about their lived experience and to learn what can be done to create a more inclusive workplace and society. \n\n\n  \nThis event is FREE to attend. Please register HERE to receive the zoom link. \n  \n\nPanelists\nRune-André Tveit (he/him)\n \nRune-André is an entrepreneurial minded person with a passion for sharing his knowledge and experience. Rune has started Excalibur Startup Academy which aims to democratize knowledge on entrepreneurship by offering webcourses\, coaching and workshops. Their webcourse Grunderformelen\, which is a fully self paced online course\, consists of twelve modules on a variety of topics which will give aspiring entrepreneurs the tools they need to execute their ideas. In the course you will learn from entrepreneurs\, investors\, consultants and people that teach business. \nAt the age of seven\, Rune was diagnosed as dyslectic. This became a negative label for him all throughout school\, and because of it he had to work twice as hard! But at the age 30 he realized he had been wrongly diagnosed as a kid\, as he realized he had ADHD. That’s when things fell in to place and things got easier. In this session he’ll share his perspectives on the importance of Neurodiversity. \n  \nNesceda Blake (she/her)\nNesceda Blake is an autistic woman and performing arts producer from Melbourne\, Australia. She endeavours to create positive change in the world around her by sharing her neurodivergent experiences. \nHer posts and article on LinkedIn have received over 900\,000 views\, with thousands of individuals learning how to make the working world a better place for neurodivergent people. Nesceda has also begun speaking with employers\, entrepreneurs and recruiters to spread the word about neuro-inclusivity\, and challenges businesses to rethink how diversity and inclusion practices can achieve actual equity. \nNesceda currently works as a Senior Officer\, Student Theatre and Engagement at La Trobe University\, where she gets to share her passion for the arts with emerging student creatives. \n  \nChisom Udeze (she/her)\nChisom is an Economist\, Organizational Design and DEI Strategist\, and a 3 times founder with over 12 years of experience working with organizations like the European Commission\, The United Nations and ExxonMobil. Chisom has an analytical mind and works to interrogate the cross-sectoral relationship between society’s resources\, production\, distribution and output. She is adept at efficiently and effectively unlocking complex systems\, data management\, forecasting economic and social trends\, and thrives in uncertain environments. \nAs the founder of Diversify\, Chisom works with companies\, governments and civil society to facilitate measurable diversity and inclusion initiatives in the workplace and society. In 2020\, mid-pandemic\, she founded HerSpace\, a diverse and inclusive co-creation community for all genders\, with particular focus on women-led companies and mothers. She is a thought-leader in Diversity\, Equity\, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) and a passionate advocate for mental health and wellness.

SUMMARY:Beyond the Binary Gender: Transgender Inclusion
DESCRIPTION:International Transgender Day; India is leading the way! \nMillions have watched Pose on HBO. In India\, people don’t watch! Government acts! While recognition of genders outside of male and female has only recently been discussed in Western societies\, in the Indian society\, people of non-binary gender expressions have played important roles for over 2000 years. \nIndia’s Supreme Court has ruled that transgender people are created as a third gender in the country. The decision is seen as a milestone in India. This was the first time in world history that a Supreme Court recognizes transgender people as a separate gender. \nDiversity campaigns and Pride flagging notwithstanding: Research indicates that it is difficult to be a trans person in working environments. According to the report “Sexual orientation\, gender diversity and living conditions” from 2021\, transgender people stand out in terms of mental health\, life satisfaction and experiences of discrimination. Transgender rights matters! \nWe are excited to share that we will have Miriam Hardarson as one of our speakers. \n\nSchedule:\n08.00 Welcome by Hans Geelmuyden by Chair DMI\n08.05 India´s Supreme Court establishes third gender category. How did this happen? Speaker: Laxmi Singh\, Deputy Country Representative – UN Women\, India\n08.20 Meaningful Inclusion starts from the Bathroom to the Boardroom – Speaker: Celia Sandhya Daniels\, Trans Evangelist & Human Rights Activist\n08.50 Cracking the glass ceiling – Speaker: Miriam Hardarson\, Agency Director Sopria Steria\n09.10 Lessons to be learned for Norway Lars Arnesen\, Lawyer and Compliance Officer at Dignio\n09.20 Q&A Miriam Hardarson and Chisom Udeze\, Founder\, Diversify\n09.45 Mingling\n10.30 End \n*There might be changes in the program \nThis is a free event. SUMMARY:Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace: Creating a Human-centric Hybrid Work Environment
\n\nDiversity and Inclusion in the Workplace: Creating a Human-centric Hybrid Work Environment\nTechnology has been a saviour during the last two years\, allowing us to continue to work\, learn and stay connected. \nHowever\, the online platforms\, like zoom and teams\, were not designed to replicate the working environment in every regard. They lack a space for casual human interactions\, kitchen talk and the opportunity to feel the energy in the room. Subtle body language is also often lost\, impacting how we receive and interpret information. \nFurthermore\, like humans\, these platforms were not prepared for our sudden and oftentimes complete transition to remote working in early 2020. With the instant increase in use\, has there been the opportunity to humanize the way in which these systems operate? And have we made a conscious effort to change the way we use and communicate to one another on these platforms? \nIn many cases\, hybrid working is here to stay\, and there are many benefits. Accessibility\, efficiency\, and increased opportunities to collaborate across geographic distances\, to name a few. So how can we centre people in hybrid working environments to ensure that diversity and inclusion continue to be upheld and developed? \nDuring this edition of Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace we will look at the experiences of those coming from across organisational structures and varying stages of business development. We will discuss strategies to ingrain best practices for the future of hybrid work to ensure to incorporate Diversity\, Equity\, Inclusion and Belonging values. Join us!  \n\nSumeet Singh Patpatia (he/him)\n\n\n\nSumeet Singh Patpatia is Schibsted´s first Global Head of Diversity\, Inclusion & Belonging. He has a Master of Science in Business and a Major in Economics from the Norwegian School of Business (BI) and broad experience from multinational companies\, working with innovation and transformation. In addition\, he has a long experience building diversity in society. He has established and led the organization Young Sikhs and the annual event “The Norwegian Turban Day”. He sits on the board of Impact Norway\, is a member of the council for religious and life stance communities in Norway and is a deputy member of the Council for Multicultural Minorities in Oslo\, appointed by Oslo City Council. \n  \nNorbert Stuger (he/him)\nNorbert Stuger is the Head of Talent\, Equity\, Diversity and Inclusion at The Economist. He has been working within Human Resources for over 20 years. He has experiences in many fields including film\, retail and fashion\, and the media. Within HR\, Norbert has experience particularly with talent acquisition\, HR Consulting and Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion. Norbert is passionate about equipping leaders and management level with the skills they need to create spaces which are inclusive\, while providing ways to retain diverse talent so that in the long run\, the benefits are seen in sustainable business development and growth\, but also for the individual’s wellbeing and personal and professional development. \nNorbert wears many hats. In addition to his official role\, he is currently building 2 fashion brands. Norbert has a degree in Fine arts and animation and is also a painter and sculptor. To mix it up even more\, he volunteers as a soccer coach\, where he holds level 1 certification. \n  \nChisom Udeze (she/her)\n\n\n\nChisom is an Economist\, Organizational Design and DEI Strategist\, and a 3 times founder with over 12 years of experience working with organizations like the European Commission\, The United Nations and ExxonMobil. SUMMARY:Women in Leadership: Shine Theory
DESCRIPTION:At HerSpace\, we are proud to be part of a collective and necessary effort to be active participants in helping women advance in their social\, personal and professional lives. We have designed the Women in Leadership series as a way to amplify the voices\, stories and experiences of women. Our featured women speakers have diverse backgrounds\, have reached milestones in their careers\,  and have made an impact in their industry and communities. We all benefit when stories of challenges and wins are shared. We offer their stories\, knowledge and insights to help empower you in your own journey. \nWomen in Leadership is a recurring event that will feature an inspirational female leader every month. If you would like to nominate a woman in your network as a way to honor her work\, please reach out so our collection can grow with our community. \n\nJoin us to hear Chisom Udeze and Sarah Przedpelska discuss Shine Theory.\n  \nShine Theory\, developed by Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman\, is described as the practice of mutual investment in each other. Shine Theory represents an intentional commitment to collaborate with and support each other instead of competing with each other. \nRather than engage in insecurity\, Shine Theory encourages us to come into our power and have the confidence to be excited and supportive of someone else’s success. It embodies the attitude of “I don’t shine if you don’t shine.” It’s a practice of cultivating a spirit of genuine happiness and excitement when your friends are doing well\, and being there for them when they aren’t. When we find ways to elevate each other and help each other thrive\, it becomes contagious. \nThis is the second time we take on this topic\, and in the 17 months since out last discussion\, A LOT has changed. \nThis conversation will explore what builds energy\, how we support one another in rebuilding or reinventing in a pandemic world and how we navigate our human capacity in times of scarcity. \n\nThis discussion will run from 18:00-19:00\, and for those who attend in-person\, from 19:00-19:30 you will have the opportunity mingle and network. \nCost: \nIn-person: 150NOK \nOnline: 100NOK \nThis event is free or discounted for HerSpace members.  \n\nAbout our speakers:\nChisom Udeze\nChisom Udeze\, according to Sarah Przedpelska:\n“When Chisom Udeze encounters a problem that irks her\, you can be certain she does not rest until something moves. She’s done it for over a decade within business development and economics\, and more recently\, she has been moving things in Oslo to create social impact through Diversify and HerSpace. Chisom is seldom perplexed by problems\, instead she sees them as puzzles in need of new constellations. The constellations she forms depend on collaborating with others and lifting together to form synergies and new solutions. No wonder the concept of Shine Theory has such a great appeal to her.” \n  \n  \nSarah Przedpelska\n\nPrzedpelska is a curious\, brave\, warm\, and brilliant individual. She approaches every situation with an open mind\, and a willingness to truly learn. She sees and values people as they are. In the years I have known Sarah she has been a confidante and a force of nature who I can reach out to when I need unfiltered honesty and advice. She expects me to be better than I am\, and she encourages me to aim higher. While I have practiced Shine Theory in one way or another throughout my adult life\, it was with Sarah that we first decided to make it intentional. She introduced me to the concept of Shine Theory and I look forward to continuing learning from her.”

If you would like to nominate a woman in your network as a way to honor her work\, please reach out so our collection can grow with our community. \n\nWe are delighted to announce our upcoming guest of honour \nFrederikke Antonie Schmidt\nFrederikke Antonie Schmidt has founded Roccamore with a mission to make more women stand strong and take their place in the world. \nIt all started in 2014 when she decided she wanted to create a product that would make women’s lives better; she would invent a high heel that didn’t feel like torture. \nRoccamore shoes are handmade in Italy by some of the world’s best shoemakers\, and scientifically validated to relieve 44% of the pressure in your arch\, 26% in your forefoot and 19% in your heel. \nFrederikke used herself as a baseline for testing and developing the comfort\, using the shoes every day and always adjusting the insole for about 2 years\, until she finally had the perfect product. \nRoccamore wants to make women feel good about standing up for who they are. Since the beginning Frederikke has been including her followers in the designing process\, asking them what they want\, making them part of the designing process\, voting for new products and giving their feedback. She even names all her designs after real women\, who are nominated by the people who follow her. Because every woman deserves to have a shoe named after her. \nFrederikke also sits on ByFounders Collective\, the Board of Representatives for Kolding Design School and as Chairman of the government’s Restart Team for Fashion & Textile. \n \nCost \nIn-person: 150NOK (includes light refreshments) \nOnline: 100NOK \nThis event is co-produced by HerSpace\, Diversify and Africa Connect. \n\nPrinsens gate is becoming THE destination for female founders! \nAs Roccamore just became our neighbours in Prinsens gate\, following the conversation at HerSpace we will wander up the street and visit their sparkling new store for a celebratory drink. \nWe hope you will join us!

She was 24 years old and was set to lead a team of 7 men that were all older than her. She has worked in finance all ten years of her career and has some insights on both leadership and being a woman in an industry dominated by men. From working in the largest financial services groups in Norway\, DNB Markets\, she shifted and started working for one of the smallest\, Dealflow. Stine Sofie is now the CEO of the largest equity crowdfunding platform and talks to several hundred startup each year. Since she became CEO of Dealflow in march 2020 (imagine that as a start date)\, she has helped raise about 200 million kroner for startups and scaleups\, 22 % of this has been raised for female founders. \n  \nSome of the questions she is interested in discussing with you are: \n\nDo male dominated industries lead to hostile environments for women?\nAre we more aware that we are women than our male colleagues are?\nWho is holding us back and what can we do to affect this?\n\nCost: NOK150 \n*This event is free for HerSpace Members* \nThis event will be held in-person at HerSpace. \nThis event is co-produced by HerSpace and Africa Connect.

SUMMARY:Time to Talk: Being Female\, Muslim and Black
DESCRIPTION:Unpacking biases \nHow much attention do you pay to the narrative about Muslim women in the media? Ask yourself\, how are they described? How much of it do you believe? \nAs a society\, we stand up for women’s and LBGTQI+-rights\, we fight against the discrimination of black people\, and in recent times\, we have heated debates about anti-Muslim hate. Yet\, we often forget that people can and do belong to all of these categories at the same time. \nWithin different movements\, people belonging to all these groups are often expected to leave one or more of their identities behind\, while\, in the real world\, they are facing challenges of discrimination\, biases\, prejudices and racism because of the entirety of their being. \nJoin us for a discussion with our guest\, Sahra Hirsi about her experience as a Black Muslim woman in Norway. She will be talking about how she navigates the society and challenge some of the stereotypes and biases our broader community holds. \nAbout Sahra Hirsi\nSahra holds a bachelor degree in English language and literature from Oslo University (UiO)\, and is currently completing a second bachelor degree in educational psychology and a master degree in international education and sustainability. \nSahra has worked as a teacher\, board member and treasurer of the African Student Association at UiO and is currently the Vice President of the Somali Student Forening. Moreover\, Sahra lauched her own podcast\, Spoken by Sahra\, this year\, where she invites different speakers to discuss issues such as racism and Islamophobia.

SUMMARY:Creative Fridays: Apron Making with WarmFolk
DESCRIPTION:Daisy from Warmfolk gives us another creative evening with a session crafting aprons. \nIn this session we will step up in size and confidence. Bring your favorite fabric or pick from Daisy’s vibrant collection. You will need 1 meter of fabric for each apron\, and 1 meter of each of your fabrics if you would like it double-sided. \nWe are leveling up our sewing confidence by tackling a more advanced project. A well designed apron can also improve your kitchen goddess skills but don’t fret\, you can make an apron for your cook in the kitchen to show your love. \nYou’re welcome to bring your machine but sewing stations will be ready when you arrive. \nCost: NOK300\nMax attendees: 8 \n\n*To reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection\, we are taking precautions to keep participants safe and decrease exposure to the virus. \nBefore attending this event\, please be aware of the following rules: \n\nOnly participants who have purchased a ticket beforehand are able to attend\, in order to help us ensure having a safe number of people in our space at any time.\nPlease wash your hands or use antibacterial solution for at least 20 secs when you arrive at HerSpace.\nPlease keep a minimum of 1-meter distance to all persons and wear a mask when that is not possible.\nShared equipment\, including yoga mats\, paint brushes\, toys\, will be disinfected directly after use.
